Forest of Imagination 2021 brings together work gathered from CCI’s programmes during 2020 and 2021. 110 young Artscapers from Mayfield and Girton Primary Schools in Cambridge were commissioned to create a forest atmosphere for Cambridge Youth Opera’s performances of Hansel and Gretel scheduled for spring 2020 (though sadly cancelled due to lockdown). The children worked with artist Caroline Wendling and spent time in Murray Edwards College Gardens and the grounds of Girton College. This work formed the first Forest of Imagination, exhibited at Wandlebury Country Park to mark the signing of the Tree Charter by the City Council.
For this year’s exhibitions we have gathered new work from a further 247 young people involved in other projects - these are from: Shirley Community Primary School (Cambridge), Howard Community Academy (Bury St-Edmunds), Thongsley Fields Primary School (Huntingdon), Arbury Road Primary School (Cambridge), St Laurence Primary School (Cambridge), Stapleford Community Primary School and Anglia Ruskin University (Cambridge and Chelmsford campuses).
Artists involved in these projects include: Alfie Carpenter, Hilary Cox Condron, Filipa Pereira-Stubbs, Sally Todd Tonka Uzu, Libby Walmsley and Caroline Wendling.
It is exciting to see so many voices of young people and artists from across our region contributing to this project.
